Modeling and Simulation

Modeling and Simulation (M&S) generally requires a multi-discipline philosophy to properly design, develop, test and produce a quality model or simulation that accurately represents the intended system or component. Initial design is a crucial and critical step that is generally overlooked by most engineers due at times to extremely tight schedules and timeline limitations.

While the design-less or minimal design approach can provide a working product that supports evaluation and analysis activities, it has been found to be a significant limitation and constraint on continued development efforts to enhance capability or support new ventures. Subsequently this approach generally results in restarts or complete rewrites at some point due to the monolithic properties the model inherited over time.

Dynetics has developed design techniques and implemented an object-oriented C architecture with the flexibility to support lower fidelity modeling and analysis requirements, as well as very detailed component and system level modeling/analysis requirements.

This modeling approach has been successfully applied on several Missile Defense Agency (MDA) programs Dynetics supports and continues to demonstrate versatility and flexibility as new efforts are undertaken. Development of this framework has also provided opportunities to either directly link into or research the potential available to support interfaces with various simulation architectures throughout the community (Common Simulation Framework, DSA, OASIS, SPEEDES, ET, etc.).

Support across multiple operating systems and platforms (Linux, Windows, Sun, Silicon Graphics) has also either been evaluated or completed. Engineering and programming expertise in the development of high-quality models and simulations has been applied across multiple programs and continues to position Dynetics as an industry leader in the development of simulations and models of missile systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, communications systems, radar systems, IR systems, acoustics, terrain data, atmospherics, and biological events.

Dynetics understands not only how to effectively build quality models but also how to adequately test and verify the performance of the component/system level models with their respective real-world counterparts through the proper processing and application of flight test, ground test and prime contractor simulation data sets. This crucial step anchors the models and provides confidence that the results supplied by the models are as accurate as possible given understood and stated caveats against the supplied and/or tactical data items. Dynetics is working hard to ensure continued development of engineering and simulation expertise to leverage next-generation modeling and visualization capabilities to enhance product quality and improve simulation architecture efficiency and modularity to continue to exceed customer requirements and expectations.
